I (they/them) am an animation artist based in K’jipuktuk/Halifax.
A research-creation approach forms the basis of my animated shorts. At the heart of my films is story. I start with a question, and through research, animate a perspective that is absent or misrepresented in accepted accounts. In the broadest sense, by relating a missing or seldom heard perspective, my films help question and add to our collective reality, to our understanding of ‘how things are’.
My films have screened at film festivals around the world including Hot Docs in Toronto, Tricky Women in Austria, DOK Leipzig International Festival for Documentary and Animated Film in Germany, Air Canada’s EnRoute, Emerging Lens Cultural Festival, Halifax Animation Festival and the Anna Leonowens Gallery.
Sincerely yours, Mrs. Taylor won the Audience Choice Award at the Emerging Lens Cultural Festival in 2017. Making its premiere at Hotdocs, Mary & Myself (NFB) went on to be nominated for a Canadian Screen Award in 2014.
